Multi Agency Crime Prevention Initiatives (MACPI) is a style of crime prevention within the Northumbria Police area (Great Britain) that involves local authorities, business, the voluntary sector, and the public at large working together against crime.
Abstract
MACPI are essentially locally based initiatives which attempt to address the problems of particular neighborhoods on a wide front and make long term improvements. Surveys directed at identifying the needs and problems of particular areas show some general themes: (1) there is a link between an indifferent society and an underlying criminal culture; (2) even though few people suffer crime in a given period, there is still a widespread fear and concern on the subject that needs to be addressed; and (3) the underlying causes of apathy towards community improvement must be probed by the police and the rest of society. In Northumbria, multi agency crime prevention is now accepted as part not only of the policing role, but also as a vital aspect of the work of local authorities and the wider community.
