REPORTS AND DISCUSSIONS FROM THE CRIME PREVENTION WORKSHOP SPONSORED BY THE CANADIAN CENTER OF CRIMINOLOGY (MAY 21-22, 1975) ARE PRESENTED.
Abstract
TEN YEARS AFTER THE FIRST CANADIAN CONFERENCE OF ITS KIND IN 1965, THE SECOND CANADIAN WORKSHOP ON CRIME PREVENTION IN VICTORIA HAD THE FOLLOWING GOALS: (1) TO STUDY DEVELOPMENT IN CRIME PREVENTION OF THE PAST 10 YEARS, (2) TO EVALUATE THESE DEVELOPMENTS IN TERMS OF EFFICIENCY, AND (3) TO DETERMINE PRIMARY RESEARCH AREAS FOR THE FUTURE. CANADIAN RESEARCH SPECIALISTS AND REPRESENTATIVES OF THE PRACTICAL CRIMINOLOGICAL PROFESSIONS WERE THE TWO IMPORTANT GROUPS REPRESENTED AT THE WORKSHOP. TWO MAIN TOPICS COVERED WERE THE HISTORY OF CRIME PREVENTION AND NEW DEVELOPMENTS IN THAT FIELD AND THE ROLE OF THE SOCIAL SCIENCES IN DETERMINING SOCIAL POLICY. A THIRD PART SUMMARIZES HIGHLIGHTS OF SESSIONS ON THE AREAS OF ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN, MEDICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL THERAPY, COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION, POLICE PARTICIPATION, AND LEGAL REFORMS. THE PROGRAM OF THE WORKSHOP IS APPENDED. FOR RELATED DOCUMENTS, SEE NCJ 60168-170. --IN FRENCH. (SAJ)
