REPORT ON A SERIES OF SPECIALIZED WORKSHOPS HELD FROM JULY 1, 1966 TO JUNE 30, 1967, FOR PERSONNEL ENGAGED IN POLICE COMMUNITY RELATIONS PROGRAMS.
Abstract
THE FIRST WORKSHOP WAS DESIGNED FOR POLICE COMMANDERS OF COMMUNITY RELATIONS UNITS AND DIRECTORS OF HUMAN RELATIONS AGENCIES. TOPICS COVERED INCLUDED THE POLICE ROLE AND IMAGE, SOURCES OF MISUNDERSTANDING, HUMAN COMMUNICATION, AND HUMAN RELATIONS. THE SECOND WORKSHOP WAS FOR POLICE TRAINING DIRECTORS AND FEATURED RECRUIT TRAINING, INSERVICE TRAINING, STAFF AND COMMAND COURSES, AND COLLEGE PROGRAMS. THE FINAL WORKSHOP'S PARTICIPANTS WERE POLICE PERSONNEL DIRECTORS WHO DEALT WITH RECRUITMENT, SELECTION, PLACEMENT, PROMOTIONAL OPPORTUNITIES, AND EMPLOYEE RELATIONS. INCLUDED IN THE REPORT IS AN IN-DEPTH EVALUATION OF THE WORKSHOPS ALONG WITH RECOMMENDATIONS FOR SUCH PROJECTS IN THE FUTURE. APPENDED MATERIAL INCLUDES WORKSHOP SCHEDULES, PROJECT DESIGNS, AND RESEARCH INSTRUMENTS USED IN EVALUATING THE WORKSHOPS.
