This book examines the growing global crisis of terrorism with a focus on the role of the Arab oil states in encouraging, financing, arming, training, and coordinating the efforts of Communist, religious, fascist, and neofascist terrorist groups.
Abstract
The growth of Palestinian nationalism and the Palestinian movement is traced from Arafat's rise to power through the development of pan-Arab unity. Support offered to Palestinian terrorists by the Pan-Arab axis (e.g., Jordan, Libya, Iran, Algeria) is described. The global aspirations of the Palestinian Liberation Organization are examined in the context of the development of linkages among terrorist groups and Palestinian support for an international terrorist network. Special attention is given to Arab states providing support for an international terrorist network, as well as the financial, military, and other support being provided by the Soviets, the Cubans, and other Communist states. Finally, the Western response to terrorism is discussed, with special focus directed to the reactions of Europe and the United States. Terrorist manipulation of the United Nations also is considered. Chapter notes and references; a list of abbreviations; listings of documents, newspapers, magazines, and journals; index; and approximately 180 references.
