Abstract
THE FUNCTIONS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE INTAKE SERVICE PROVIDE FOR SCREENING, INFORMATION GATHERING COUNSELING, SUPERVISION OF UNOFFICIAL PROBATIONERS, AND EXPANSION OF THE RANGE OF ALTERNATIVES AVAILABLE FOR THE DISPOSITION OF JUVENILE CASES. SINCE BEGINNING OPERATIONS IN MARCH OF 1975, THE NUMBER OF JUVENILES COMMITTED TO DETENTION FACILITIES HAS DECREASED 63 PERCENT. DUE TO THE SHORT PERIOD OF OPERATION, THE AFFECT OF THE INTAKE SERVICE ON OUT OF 550 TOTAL COMPLAINTS PROCESSED DURING THE PERIOD MARCH-SEPTEMBER 1975, ONLY 56 JUVENILE OFFENDERS WERE REPROCESSED BY INTAKE AS SECOND TIME OFFENDERS. INTERVIEWS WITH THE PERSONNEL IN THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM INDICATED GENERALLY FAVORABLE VIEWS OF THE PROGRAM. IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT THE PROGRAM BE CONTINUED. SUGGESTED IMPROVEMENTS ARE TO BE OFFERED IN AN ADDENDUM TO THIS REPORT....RCB
