Abstract
The manual is also intended for use by parents, people who work with children, and the public. Individual sections explain age-based rights relating to marriage, employment, handling money, and curfews; decisionmaking regarding medical treatment and emancipation; and age and sex discrimination. Additional sections explain parental rights and responsibilities, the reporting of abuse or neglect, legal proceedings relating to child welfare and divorce, and adoption law. Further sections explain the right to an education; rights related to curriculum, records, discipline, free speech, and student searches; the laws relating to entering and living in foster care and permanency planning; legal issues related to residential treatment, psychiatric hospitalization, and other residential placements; and rights in juvenile courts.
