Intended as a workbook for training volunteer administrators and others interested in evaluating a volunteer program, tips are provided for structuring the training program, checklists are given for assessing various aspects of program operations, and action options subsequent to the evaluation are presented.
Abstract
The evaluation checklists provide a series of questions the answers to which yield information pertinent to the effectiveness of the program's administration, planning, screening volunteer applicants, training paid staff and volunteers, public relations, and evaluation practices. Some suggestions for the use of the self-evaluation process and results are to have a number of significant persons in the organization complete the checklists to allow for differing observations and perspectives, develop checklists that are more appropriate for a particular program, and conduct checklist evaluations annually for comparison purposes.
