BOOKLET REPORTS ON A LEAA-FUNDED CRIMINAL JUSTICE PROJECT AT THREE LOS ANGELES-AREA SCHOOLS.
Abstract
DURING THE 1973-74 SCHOOL YEAR, STUDENTS AT JOHN MUIR, ROOSEVELT, AND JORDAN HIGH SCHOOLS PARTICIPATED IN A NOVEL PROJECT THAT HELPED THEM TO BETTER UNDERSTAND THE WORKINGS OF THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM. THE PROJECT RECEIVED COOPERATION FROM JUSTICE-RELATED DEPARTMENTS SUCH AS PROBATION, CALIFORNIA YOUTH AUTHORITY, THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S OFFICE, THE PASADENA POLICE DEPARTMENT, AND THE PUBLIC DEFENDER'S OFFICE. SEVENTY-FIVE STUDENTS TOOK PART IN THIS PROGRAM WHICH INCLUDED CLASSROOM ROLE-PLAYING SITUATIONS, PRESENTATIONS BY AUTHORITIES IN VARIOUS FIELDS. AND OUT OF THE CLASSROOM TRIPS. THE PROGRAM EXPLORED THE INTERRELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ALL THE AGENCIES IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM, AND EVEN INCLUDED A MOCK ARREST EXPERIENCE. THE BOOKLET CONTAINS GUIDES TO AUDIOVISUAL EQUIPMENT, AND STUDENT LEARNING PACKETS. ...BS
