FACTUAL INFORMATION AND REALISTIC SITUATIONS ARE DISCUSSED REGARDING ATTITUDES OF YOUNG PEOPLE TOWARDS POLICE, POLICE AUTHORITY, POLICE WORK, AND POLICE-COMMUNITY RELATIONS.
Abstract
THE CONCEPT OF AUTHORITY IS EXAMINED IN GENERAL WITH A PARTICULAR EMPHASIS ON THE ISSUE OF POLICE AUTHORITY IN CONFLICT SITUATIONS WITH YOUNG PEOPLE. A DESCRIPTION OF POLICE WORK, THE LAWS GOVERNING POLICE BEHAVIOR, AND USE OF FORCE IS PRESENTED. COMMUNITY AND POLICE RELATIONS ARE CONSIDERED WITH A FOCUS ON CRIME PREVENTION. THE LESSONS INCLUDE QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION, BRIEF NARRATIVES, CASE STUDIES, AND LESSON ACTIVITIES. A GLOSSARY IS PROVIDED, AND THE APPENDIX CONTAINS SELECTED CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS. (DAG)
