REVIEW OF 1972 OPERATIONS OF THE CALIFORNIA YOUTH AUTHORITY, UPDATING A SIMILAR ARTICLE WRITTEN IN 1968.
Abstract
SUBSTANTIAL CHANGES SINCE 1968 ARE THE CLOSING OF THE FRICOT RANCH AND PASO ROBLES SCHOOLS FOR BOYS, THE INCREASED PAROLE EFFECTIVENESS PROGRAM (IPEP) WHICH COMPLETELY REORGANIZED THE PAROLE OPERATION, AND THE MERGER OF INSTITUTION AND PAROLE OPERATIONS UNDER A SINGLE ADMINISTRATION. AN INCREASE IN NUMBER OF PAROLE OFFICERS, ESTABLISHMENT OF SEVEN COMMUNITY PAROLE CENTERS, COMPREHENSIVE ACADEMIC PROGRAMS AT ALL INSTITUTIONS, IMPROVED STAFFING METHODS, INSTITUTION OF A JUNIOR COLLEGE PROGRAM, ESTABLISHMENT OF FAMILY DRUG PROGRAM AND NINE YOUTH SERVICE BUREAUS ARE FURTHER IMPROVEMENTS. YOUTH DEVELOPMENT AND DELINQUENCY PREVENTION ADMINISTRATION CONVERTED SOME PAROLE OFFICES TO SERVE YOUTHFUL OFFENDERS AND THEIR ASSOCIATES. FIVE LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS COOPERATED IN PROGRAM PLANNING AND EVALUATION.
