COMMUNITY AGENCIES FOR JUVENILE DELINQUENCY PREVENTION ARE EVALUATED OVER THE EIGHTEEN-MONTH PERIOD FROM JANUARY 1970 TO JUNE 1971.
Abstract
THE YOUTH SERVICE BUREAUS IN CALIFORNIA PROVIDED DIRECT SERVICE TO OVER 4,300 NEW CASES DURING THE PERIOD OF EVALUATION. THE YOUTHS SERVED HAD A MEDIAN AGE OF 15.8. THE MAIN OBJECTIVES OF THE YOUTH SERVICE BUREAUS ARE TO DIVERT A SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF YOUTH FROM THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM AND TO UTILIZE EXISTING COMMUNITY RESOURCES IN A MORE COORDINATED MANNER. THE REPORT DESCRIBES THE VARIOUS SERVICES AND PROGRAMS INVOLVING JUVENILE DELINQUENTS, BUT SINCE THERE WAS NO RIGOROUS EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH DESIGN THE FULL IMPACT OF THE YOUTH SERVICE BUREAUS ON THE YOUTH THEY HAVE SERVED REMAINS SPECULATIVE.
