A project initiated in one area of Hawaii in 1987 developed a computerized database on youth services on Oahu and in the Kona District of Hawaii to provide family service agencies with access to information on available resources, to identify gaps in the family service programs, and to promote the establishment of a formal link between schools and social service agencies.
Abstract
Information for the database came from an existing information and referral service and from a survey of relevant programs and agencies. This information was entered into a microcomputer database system called The Logical Choice. The database now lists about 600 resources, including about 500 on Oahu and 55 on the Island of Hawaii. This information is available from the Center for Youth Research at the University of Hawaii. The center will continue to add information and will provide it to a statewide system when one is established. The analysis of services found service needs and gaps related to three issues: child abuse and neglect, child sexual abuse, and child care. Appended materials from the data base, lists of services, and 13 references.
