YOUTH SERVICE BUREAU IN CALIFORNIA WHICH FUNCTIONS AS PART OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT IN A SOCIAL SERVICE CAPACITY.
Abstract
YOUTH SERVICES BEGAN OPERATING IN PLEASANT HILL, CALIF. ON JULY 1, 1971. AS PART OF THE STAFF TRAINING PROGRAM, THE SCHOOL LIAISON OFFICERS, COMMUNITY AIDS, AND PROGRAM COORDINATORS ALL ATTENDED PSYCHIATRIC TRAINING CLASSES. ONE INDICATION OF THE PROGRAM'S SUCCESS IS THE GROWING NUMBER OF ARRESTED JUVENILES DIVERTED FROM COURT THROUGH REFERRALS TO YOUTH SERVICES. CONSIDERABLE TIME IS SPENT ON INDIVIDUAL AND FAMILY COUNSELING, AND DRUG ABUSE EDUCATION. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
