YOUTH TREATMENT CENTERS, WHICH WILL PROVIDE LONG-TERM, THERAPEUTIC CARE AND TREATMENT FOR APPROXIMATELY 200 SEVERELY DISTURBED AND ANTI-SOCIAL ADOLESCENT BOYS AND GIRLS, ARE DESCRIBED.
Abstract
THE CENTERS ARE DESIGNED TO TREAT THOSE CASES WHICH EXCEED THE THERAPEUTIC CAPABILITIES OF OTHER, LESS INTENSIVE RESIDENTIAL PROGRAMS. THEY WILL AFFORD THE POSSIBILITY OF REHABILITATION WITHIN A PROGRESSION OF GRADUATED SECURITY, AND COMBINE THE THERAPEUTIC INPUTS OF SUCH MEANS AS PSYCHIATRIC TREATMENT, OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY, EDUCATION, VOCATIONAL TRAINING, RECREATIONAL AND SOCIAL ACTIVITIES, FAMILY CASEWORK, AND COMMUNITY CONTACT. THIS PAPER DESCRIBES THE INTENDED CLIENTS, THE TREATMENT APPROACH, AND THE ORGANIZATION, STAFFING AND FACILITIES REQUIRED TO IMPLEMENT IT. THE CENTERS WILL ALSO SERVE AS SITES FOR RESEARCH INTO TREATING AND PREVENTING SIMILAR BEHAVIOR PROBLEMS IN OTHER ADOLESCENTS.
