Smoking patterns were examined in a sample of 27,335 New York State junior and senior high school students.
Abstract
All students present on the date of the survey completed an anonymous, self-administered questionnaire. Results revealed that smoking was more prevalent among girls than boys, whites more than members of minority groups. Marijuana use was the best single predictor of whether a student smoked or not. However, heavy drinking was the best predictor of quantity smoked among smokers. 4 tables, 1 figure, and 22 references. (Author abstract modified)
