This April 1996 issue of Technology Beat presents the closing remarks of U.S. Representative Jane Harman at the Technology Solutions for Public Safety Conference. Representative Harman spoke about the need for the Federal Government to do more to ensure that local law enforcement is adequately equipped to fight crime. Her remarks centered on the idea that more financial support to agencies to purchase critical technology would lead to less wasted police time, more and quicker apprehensions of criminals, and increased public safety. The article also contains additional remarks from conference participants about their experiences at the conference. The final section of the article highlights topics that were discussed at the conference breakout sessions on the last day of the conference. These topics covered Legal and Liability Issues of Technology Employment; Simulation Training Technologies; Location and Tracking Technologies; Video Surveillance Systems and Imagery Analysis; and Training Technology Delivery Applications.
