In announcing that OJJDP awarded just over $320 million in FY 2019 in addressing public safety issues for the nation's youth, other information on FY 2019 OJJDP awards and activities is provided. "President Trump Addresses Police Chiefs' Conference" includes information on his signing of an executive order that establishes a Commission on Law Enforcement and the Administration of Justice, whose mission is to study key issues facing law enforcement. Topics discussed at the Conference are briefly reviewed. "November: National Native American Heritage Month" discusses the theme, which is to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation for the diversity of culture and history of the 573 federally recognized American Indian and Alaska Native nations. "OJJDP Convening Focuses on Gang Violence Prevention and Suppression" describes a training event for grantees in jurisdictions with chronic and emerging gang problems. "Staff Spotlight : Associate Administrator James Antai" features his leadership of OJJDP's Special Victims and Violent Offenders (SVVO) Division, which administers policies and programs that focus on protecting children against victimization, preventing and responding to youth violence, and holding offenders accountable. Upcoming OJJDP events are noted.
