The ethics of the law enforcement profession require that officers provide the same level of service to all individuals, regardless of circumstances. However, the AIDS epidemic has heightened the fear of contracting communicable diseases. This document provides background information on HIV infection as well as Hepatitis-B. Proper procedures for handling needles and for the disposal of contaminated materials are described.
