EXAMINATION OF THE WEAKNESSES INHERENT IN A PERSONNEL PROMOTION POLICY BASED ON WRITTEN EXAMINATIONS.
Abstract
THE AUTHOR'S FUNDAMENTAL RECOMMENDATION IS TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF EXAMINATION DEVICES IN ORDER TO ENHANCE THE PROBABILITY OF OBTAINING ACCURATE MEASURES OF FACTORS THAT DETERMINE AN INDIVIDUAL'S CAPABILITY OF DOING EFFECTIVE POLICE WORK. MANY OF THESE FACTORS ARE NOT USUALLY MEASURABLE THROUGH A SINGLE WRITTEN EXAMINATION. BY USING ADDITIONAL SELECTION TOOLS, EACH OF WHICH FOCUSES ON ASSESSING AN IMPORTANT INGREDIENT IN PERFORMING POLICE WORK EFFECTIVELY, AND BY POOLING THE EVALUATION OF EACH OF THESE TOOLS, THE PROBABILITY OF MAKING THE RIGHT DECISION ON PROMOTION IS INCREASED.
