Abstract
THE FOREWORD AND INTRODUCTION OFFER A STATE-OF-THE-ART OVERVIEW OF DEFINITIONS, CULTURAL SANCTIONS, CONCEPTS OF CAUSALITY, INTERVENTION, TREATMENT, AND OTHER ASPECTS OF CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT. THE FULL TEXT OF A MODEL STATE ABUSE/NEGLECT LAW THAT MEETS THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE STATUTE (P.L. 93-247) GOVERNING FEDERAL FUNDING OF STATE AND LOCAL PROJECTS IN THE UNITED STATES IS PRESENTED. THE ORGANIZATION AND ADMINISTRATION OF CHILD ABUSE PROGRAMS AT THE FEDERAL LEVEL IN THE UNITED STATES AND CANADA ARE DESCRIBED. FOR EACH STATE AND PROVINCE, A SUMMARY OF ABUSE/NEGLECT REPORTING REQUIREMENTS, LEGISLATION, SERVICE AGENCIES, AND PROGRAMS IS PRESENTED. THE SUMMARIES INCLUDE LISTINGS OF ALL RELEVANT OFFICES (WITH NAMES AND TELEPHONE NUMBERS OF CONTACT PERSONS) AT THE STATE/PROVINCIAL, REGIONAL, AND LOCAL LEVELS.
