Abstract
PARTICIPANT HANDOUTS INCLUDED IN THE MANUAL COVER: (1) GENERAL RULES ON PREPARATION FOR ARBITRATION AND HEARING PROCEDURES; (2) TESTS USED BY THE AMERICAN ARBITRATION ASSOCIATION TO DETERMINE WHETHER AN EMPLOYER HAD JUST AND PROPER CAUSE FOR DISCIPLINING AN EMPLOYEE; AND (3) 10 SUGGESTIONS FOR HANDLING GRIEVANCES. TRAINING SESSIONS COVER A DEFINITION OF DISCIPLINE, THE BENEFITS OF FAIR ENFORCEMENT OF RULES, MINIMIZING NEGATIVE CONSEQUENCES OF DISCIPLINE, TECHNIQUES SUCH AS MAKING RECORDS AND GATHERING FACTS BEFORE RENDERING A DECISION, AND THE IMPORTANCE OF EMPLOYEE HANDBOOKS OR OTHER WRITTEN RECORDS OF INSTITUTIONAL POLICY.
