THE BALLISTIC AND FORENSIC ASPECTS OF HOLLOWPOINT BULLETS ARE DISCUSSED.
Abstract
THE MOST IMPORTANT MEASURE OF THE STOPPING POWER OF A BULLET IS THE AMOUNT OF KINETIC ENERGY LOST AFTER IMPACT. IN THIS RESPECT, HOLLOWPOINT BULLETS OF LESS WEIGHT AND MORE MUZZLE VELOCITY THAN STANDARD ROUND NOSE BULLETS ARE FAR SUPERIOR. THE FORENSIC ANALYSIS REVEALS THAT A PERSON SHOT THROUGH THE HEART WITH A ROUND NOSE BULLET IS JUST AS LIKELY TO DIE AS A PERSON SHOT THROUGH THE HEART WITH A HOLLOWPOINT BULLET. SEE ALSO NCJ-28135.
