Abstract
SEVEN YOUNG POLICE OFFICERS, RANKING FROM PATROL OFFICER TO LIEUTENANT, SERVED FOR SIX MONTHS AS A STAFF ASSISTANT TO A NEIGHBORING DEPARTMENT'S CHIEF OF POLICE. THIS ARTICLE DISCUSSES THE GOALS OF THE PROGRAM, THE OFFICERS' DUAL ROLES. THE PROGRAM'S LOW COST AND POTENTIAL FOR LONG-RANGE SAVING, THE REACTIONS OF THE OFFICERS, AND ATTITUDINAL CHANGES ON THE PART OF THE OFFICERS AFTER RETURNING TO THEIR HOME DEPARTMENTS.
