Abstract
THE HANDBOOK IS DIVIDED INTO THREE SECTIONS: (1) A DISCUSSION OF VARIOUS INSTRUCTIONAL APPROACHES WHICH MAY BE USED IN TEACHING LAW-RELATED STUDIES; (2) SECONDARY LESSON PLANS FOR MIDDLE SCHOOLS; AND (3) SECONDARY LESSON PLANS FOR HIGH SCHOOLS. THE APPROACHES CONSIDERED ARE THE CASE STUDY, ADVERSARY, SIMULATION, PANEL DISCUSSION, RESOURCE PERSON, MOCK TRIAL, ROLE-PLAYING, SOCRATIC DIALOGUE, DEBATE, BRAINSTORMING, JURISPRUDENTIAL, AND MORAL DEVELOPMENT APPROACHES. EACH DESCRIPTION CONTAINS AN EXPLANATION OF THE APPROACH, ITS ADVANTAGES AND APPLICATIONS TO PARTICULAR SITUATIONS, AND GUIDELINES FOR THE INSTRUCTOR. THE LESSON PLANS ARE DESIGNED TO BE USED AS SUPPLEMENTAL LESSONS AND ACTIVITIES TO A REGULAR COURSE CURRICULUM. THE LESSON PLANS FOR MIDDLE SCHOOLS COVER SUCH TOPICS AS CRIME RATE, MISUSE OF AUTHORITY, FREEDOM OF THE PRESS, ACCESSORY TO A CRIME, FAIR TRIAL, AND STUDENTS' RIGHTS. EACH PLAN SPECIFIES THE GRADE FOR WHICH IT IS INTENDED, TOPIC, TOPICAL QUESTIONS, TIME PERIOD FOR COMPLETION, MATERIALS NECESSARY, RATIONALE, CONTENT, OBJECTIVES, PROCEDURES, AND EVALUATION. RESOURCE MATERIALS ARE PROVIDED AS APPROPRIATE. THE HIGH SCHOOL LESSON PLANS FOLLOW THE SAME FORMAT AND INCLUDE SUCH TOPICS AS POLICE METHODS, SELF-INCRIMINATION, INTOLERANCE IN AMERICA, SHOPLIFTING, URBAN CRIME, EUTHANASIA, AND THE MORALITY OF WAR.
