In this issue of the Justice Resource Update several programs and initiatives under the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs (OJP) are featured. Highlights of these programs and initiatives include: (1) the Defending Childhood initiative to address a national crisis: the exposure of America's children to violence as victims and witnesses; (2) award of nearly $127 million to support the public safety initiatives of Federally recognized Indian tribes through the Coordinated Tribal Assistance Solicitation; (3) announcement of the new nationwide public-relations campaign, "Stop, Think, Connect," promoting cyber security awareness; (4) the implementation of the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA) in South Dakota; and (4) funding from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) for the National Academy of Sciences to conduct a 2-year study to assess the impact of the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act of 1974 and OJJDP's implementation of the Act. The Update also provides a list of upcoming events sponsored by OJP such as the National Congress of American Indians (November 2010), Personal Protective Equipment Conference (December 2010), and the National Indian Nations Conference (December 2010) honoring victims and promoting safety.
