ACTIVITIES OF THE SENATE SUBCOMMITTEE TO INVESTIGATE JUVENILE DELINQUENCY ARE REPORTED FOR 1975 IN THE AREAS OF DELINQUENCY PREVENTION AND CONTROL, DRUG ABUSE, AND FIREARMS CONTROL.
Abstract
PROGRESS IS REPORTED IN THE INVESTIGATION OF SCHOOL VIOLENCE AND VANDALISM, INTERSTATE TRAFFIC AND DRUGGING OF CHILDREN, YOUTH GANGS AND VIOLENT YOUTHFUL OFFENDERS, RELEVANCE OF JUVENILE DETENTION AND INCARCERATION TO JUVENILE CRIME, AND FEMALE DELINQUENCY AND SEX DISCRIMINATION IN THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM. INVESTIGATIONS ARE ALSO PROCEEDING IN MATTERS RELATED TO THE CONTROL AND ABUSE OF LEGAL AND ILLEGAL DANGEROUS DRUGS, PARTICULARLY IN THE REGULATION AND CONTROL OF OPIATES, INTERNATIONAL TRAFFIC AND ABUSE, ILLICIT METHADONE TRAFFIC AND ABUSE, PHARMACIES AND DRUG ABUSE, FEDERAL RESPONSE TO MARIHUANA, DRUGS USED IMPROPERLY TO CONTROL OR DISCIPLINE INSTITUTIONALIZED PERSONS, AND MANDATORY PENALTIES FOR NONADDICT HEROIN DEALERS. FOR MORE THAN A DECADE THE SUBCOMMITTEE HAS CONDUCTED EXTENSIVE INVESTIGATIONS INTO A BROAD RANGE OF PROPOSED FIREARMS LEGISLATION. LEGISLATION ON THE CONTROL OF HANDGUNS IS REPORTED, ALONG WITH LEGISLATION REMOVING RESTRICTIONS ON COMMERCIALLY MANUFACTURED BLACK POWDER INTENDED FOR SPORTING, RECREATIONAL, OR CULTURAL PURPOSES. PROGRESS IS REPORTED IN THE INVESTIGATION OF THE DEVELOPMENT AND REGULATION OF NONLETHAL WEAPONS. LEGISLATION DEVELOPED OR PROCESSED BY THE SUBCOMMITTEE IS DESCRIBED UNDER THE GENERAL AREAS OF DRUGS, FIREARMS, AND JUVENLE JUSTICE AND DELINQUENCY PREVENTION.
