Abstract
THIS REVIEW WAS WRITTEN TO PRESENT THE VIEWS OF THE ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE OF THE US COURT ON THE CURRENT STATUS OF CERTAIN ELEMENTS OF THE CRIMINAL LAW. DECISIONS ON THE POWER OF ARREST, THE EXCLUSIONARY RULE, THE RIGHT AGAINST SELF-INCRIMINATION, AND THE AVAILBILITY OF FEDERAL HABEAS CORPUS RELIEF FOR STATE PRISONERS ARE DISCUSSED AND THEIR APPLICABILITY TO THE WORK OF FEDERAL PROBATION OFFICERS ARE ANALYZED. RECENT FEDERAL COURT RULINGS ON SENTENCING ARE ALSO BRIEFLY EXAMINED.
