This book presents lessons to help teachers, caregivers, and parents in giving children regular social skills lessons.
Abstract
The book contains a ready-to-use curriculum based on real-life situations to help build children's self-esteem, self-control, respect for the rights of others, and a sense of responsibility for their own actions. The book is presented in sections concerning: (1) disciplinary strategies/corrective actions; (2) thinking before acting; (3) listening; (4) following directions; (5) improving self-image; (6) accepting consequences; (7) problem solving; (8) self-control; (9) completing assignments; (10) dealing with anger; (11) dealing with feelings; (12) accepting change; (13) stopping false rumors; (14) attending to task; (15) respect for others; (16) accepting differences; and (17) dealing with peer pressure. Each lesson covers: establishing the need, identifying the skill components, modeling the skill, behavioral rehearsal, practice, and using the behaviors outside the school, and includes reproducibles. The book also contains a social skills task review and a social skills family training project. Bibliography
