The National School Safety Center (NSSC) was created by presidential directive in 1984 and has the mandate of focusing national attention on cooperative solutions to crime, violence, drugs, and other problems that disrupt the educational process.
Abstract

The center also places special emphasis on programs to improve student discipline, attendance, achievement, and school climate. NSSC provides technical assistance, offers legal and legislative aid, and produces publications and films. Specific activities have included a national prevention program on schoolyard bullying and victimization, the building of communication networks through conferences and meetings, and the publication of the journal "School Safety." It has also developed public service advertising campaigns designed to build self-esteem and prevent gang involvement. List of accomplishments and list of NSSC address, staff, and board members.
