INITIATION OF THE TEAM CONCEPT, WHEREBY A GROUP OF POLICE OFFICERS WORK CONTINUOUSLY WITH EACH OTHER AND WITH A SINGLE SERGEANT, HAS HAD A BENEFICIAL EFFECT IN TAKOMA.
Abstract
IN ADDITION TO THE BENEFITS WHICH STEM FROM POLICE OFFICERS WORKING WITH A SINGLE SUPERVISOR, THE TEAM CONCEPT HAS INSTILLED A FRIENDLY COMPETITION BETWEEN THE TEAMS IN FIGHTING CRIME. SCHEDULING IN-SERVICE TRAINING DAYS OR ADDITIONAL MANPOWER DURING PEAK CRIME PERIODS IS A SIMPLER MATTER. THE ARTICLE ALSO DESCRIBES THE INSTITUTION OF AN INTERMEDIATE RANK, INVESTIGATOR, BETWEEN PATROLMAN AND SERGEANT.
