How to Apply for Grants

Faith-based and other community organizations are eligible to apply for grants or contracts from the Office of Justice Programs, the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services, the Office on Violence Against Women and the the Bureau of Prisons. OJP and the Office on Violence Against Women also award formula and block grants to state governments, which may then award sub-grants to faith-based and community organizations. A directory of state government contacts for formula and block grant programs is available on the State Administering Agencies website.

  • Office of Justice Programs
    OJP's mission is to provide federal leadership in developing the nation's capacity to prevent and control crime, improve the criminal and juvenile justice systems, increase knowledge about crime and related issues, and assist crime victims. OJP comprises of the Bureau of Justice Assistance, the Bureau of Justice Statistics, the National Institute of Justice, the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention and the Office for Victims of Crime. OJP publishes program solicitations on its Current Funding Opportunities website.
  • Office of Community Oriented Policing Services
    The COPS Office provides grants to tribal, state and local law enforcement agencies to hire and train community-policing professionals, acquire and deploy cutting-edge crime-fighting technologies, and develop and test innovative policing strategies. Tribal, state and local law enforcement agencies are encouraged to collaborate with faith-based and other community organizations.   • Office on Violence Against Women
    The Office on Violence Against Women coordinates the Department's efforts to implement the Violence Against Women Act. OVW publishes program solicitations on its Funding Opportunities website.
  • Bureau of Prisons
    The Bureau of Prisons awards contracts to for-profit and non-profit entities - including faith-based and other community organizations - for various types of services, including the operation of halfway houses and substance abuse treatment. Active solicitations, or requests for contract bids, are posted at www.fbo.gov, the federal business opportunities website.
