The Office of Sex Offender Sentencing, Monitoring, Apprehending, Registering, and Tracking is authorized under the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act. The SMART Office provides assistance to states, tribes and territories implementing the sex offender registration and notification provisions of the Adam Walsh Act. It also manages the National Sex Offender Public Website, which receives 1.6 million hits a day; the Sex Offender Registry Tool; the Tribe and Territory Sex Offender Registry System; and the SORNA Exchange Portal.
